Saint Andrew’s is collecting nonperishable food for the needy on Wednesdays. Donations, which will go to Catholic Charities and other area food centers, may be left in the back of the church.
The St. Camillus Food Pantry provides emergency food assistance to families in need. This program provides for the nutritional needs each week for needy families in the communities surrounding St. Camillus and is a large, well managed operation. Volunteers wear long sleeves and gloves and masks and are thoroughly trained and supervised for safe food handling practices and social distancing.

One Saturday each month, Saint Andrew’s donates 300 sandwiches to Shepherd’s Table, located in downtown Silver Spring. For 38 years, Shepherd’s Table has provided basic services to men and women experiencing homelessness and living in poverty. A Sign-up Genius allows 10 parishioners to each make a total of 30 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at home, and then bring them to the Saint Andrew’s parking lot. A designated volunteer driver then delivers them to Shepherd’s Table. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Nancy Shea-Starkenburg at [email protected] or 240-535-3838.
Located in downtown Silver Spring, Shepherd’s Table serves individuals from all walks of life who are experiencing a unique set of challenges, from homelessness, unemployment, mental health challenges, substance abuse, physical disabilities, and more.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Shepherd’s Table continues to provide free meals and other essential resources to the community.

The Silver Spring Christian Reformed Church, located across the street from Saint Andrew’s, operates a food pantry, currently operating every Tuesday from 4-6pm. They were able to purchase a large quantity of food to be pre-packaged for distribution. They have reached out to us for volunteer assistance during this period of increased demand and have added more dates to help them. They need help bagging, set-up and clean-up, all of which can be done without contact with the general public.

The COVID-19 health crisis is impacting every part of our lives and has shut down most businesses. However, the clients Catholic Charities serve need help now more than ever! Catholic Charities continues to provide essential services; their food, shelter and medical care programs are continuing. They need YOU, your time and talents! While most in-person volunteer opportunities have been suspended, there are still remote-based ways to get involved and assist Catholic Charities during this crisis. <HERE> are some ways you can support these programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
St. Martin’s Pantry currently distributes bags of non-perishable food, plus bread, pastries, fresh produce, and ground coffee, every Monday from 6:00am to 1:00pm. This schedule is expected to continue in effect as long as the COVID-19 pandemic prevents public Mass and the school remains closed. Food donations are critical to keeping the Pantry in operation. Donations should be dropped off during Pantry working hours: Fridays 9:30am to 1:00pm, Sundays 2:00-5:00pm and Mondays 6:30am to 1:00pm. Operation information and a list of needs are <HERE>.
