Dear Parents,

Welcome to the St. Andrew Apostle School community. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) during the coming school year. I am writing to you to inform you of the Archdiocese of Washington's policy for child protection and St. Andrew Apostle School's strict adherence to this policy.

According to Archdiocesan policy, all school volunteers must be fingerprinted and complete a criminal background check by the Archdiocese before beginning volunteer service in an Archdiocesan school. If you plan on volunteering for any school activity, please visit our school website at www.standrewapostle.org to download instructions and all application forms necessary to qualify as a volunteer. Please note that these forms must be signed by the school principal or pastor before beginning the application process. I suggest that you begin the process as soon as possible as it can be a time consuming task.

Child Protection education is also a very important part of compliance with the Child Protection Policy for the Archdiocese of Washington. In addition to the fingerprinting and background check requirements, all volunteers must attend the Archdiocesan sponsored adult session "Protecting God's Children." To register for a session, go to the Archdiocesan website, www.adw.org and click on "Protecting our Children." Once at the site, sign up for one of the sessions. You must pre-register for the class, and be aware that there is an enrollment limit for each session. If you do not have access to internet service, please call 301 853-5328 to register for the course.

Please be aware that you must pre-register with the Archdiocese of Washington for the Child Protection course, and contact the school office to enter your information in our database before you can be fingerprinted at the Archdiocesan Office. The fingerprinting office will not fingerprint you if you do not follow these steps.

I hope you will consider being a school volunteer. Please call the school office if you have questions about the application process. Thank you in advance for complying with this Archdiocesan mandate that is put in place for the safety of all of our children.

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty
Principal
